Constant DC offset RE: Software v.4.11 RE: Constant DC offset Standard Info: - Meta-info about the GUS can be found at the end of the Digest. - Before you ask a question, please READ THE FAQ. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Lance Kalzus Date: Thu, 11 May 1995 11:25:02 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Where'd SDK v2.22 go?? Does anyone read this list?/ No ;) Does anyone know where the SDKs have all gone? I've checked both orst and epas, and the path which should contain the SDK files (among many other things) doesn't. The Anlog devices chipsets, 1848 and 1849 had the same problem. I switch to the GUS-MAX card because I was told that the 4231 did not have this problem. This is very disappointing as we are trying to do simulatenous play/record via the codec and do frequency analysis as quickly as possible. Filtering the data as well really sucks. And to complicate matters, we really want to stereo record on a simultaneous played sound. Most people seem to be under the impression that its just window's drivers. I'm fairly sure that it installed MAXSBOS too (over the original). Also, I've noticed the occasional burp with my GUS max (only on stereo files) in Windows (just like the old days). I don't remember this being the case with the previous version 3.59. Anyone else noticed this. BTW I've a GUS MAX. Chris P.S. I just have to say that the install programs that Gravis are using now are tops (If a little ugly, i.e. sim-windows). I had a nightmare installing a Pro 3D this morning, Media Vision could learn a thing ot two... (BTW I don't use a 3D at home of course!) ------------------------------ From: Chris James Date: Fri, 12 May 1995 12:00:00 -0700 (PDT) Subject: RE: Constant DC offset >Apparently it is a problem with the 4231. I'm now not sure that the DC is entirely internal (although its hard to figure how it couldn't be since its post recording multiplexer). I recorded some signals from the GF1 playing midi in windows, no offset! This doesn't make sense! Presumably all the inputs are decoupled properly to the CS codec (this is how it seems when no post multiplexer record gain is applied at least on my system), i.e. no offset. Do you always have a noticeable offset? I vaguely remember at some time noticing an offset drift. That is the signal would work down to null offset so I saw a smooth "decay". This was when I was writing a driver using the SDK. Its possible that it is "autocalibrating" but that the SDK (were the windows drivers built with this?) code doesn't wait for long enough (the specs mention 160 ms). I still think the final solution is to enable the codec's built in digital HP filters which are design to deal with this problem. If ULTRINIT and the SDK code etc don't explicitly poke this register maybe we can write a quick init program to enable this function? Maybe we should talk to Crystal Semi? I'll try doing a Web search for an email contact (phone calls to US are expensive from here).
